大阪の観光地を案内する際に
使える英会話

カンボジアに住み始めて、もうすぐ１年が経ちます。本当にあっという間に時は過ぎていきますね。こちらに住んでいると、カンボジア人の方以外にも接する機会が多々あり、様々な刺激を受ける日々です。他の国から赴任して住んでいる人、旅の途中で住みついてしまった人、たまたま観光で近隣諸国から訪れている人など、ひょんなことから言葉を交わし、お友達になった人もいます。そんな時、私の出身地をよく聞かれるのですが、「大阪」と言っても分かってもらえないことが多く、まだまだ大阪の知名度は東京ほどではないのだな、と思い知らされています。ですが、来年のG20サミットは大阪で開催されることが決定しましたし、これからは知名度向上とともに、さらに観光客も増えるのではないかと期待しています。今回は大阪のことをもっと知ってもらうべく、「大阪の観光地を案内する際に使える英会話」をご紹介します。

－大阪といえば大阪城！－
　Michelle＜以下M＞: Hi Elly, I'm going to Osaka next week. Where should I visit?
　　　　　　　　　　（ねぇ、エリー、来週大阪に行くのだけど、どこに行ったらいいかしら？）
　Elly＜以下E＞: Oh great! You should go visit Osaka castle, it is the symbol of Osaka city!
　　　　　　　  （あぁ、いいね！大阪に行くなら、大阪のシンボル、大阪城に行くべきね！）
　M: Yeah? Can I get there easily by train? Do I get to see inside the castle?
　　（そう？電車で簡単に行けるの？お城の中も見れるのかしら？）
　E: Sure! You can take JR Osaka loop line or subway, and you walk through Osaka castle park. It'll take a while to get to
　　 the castle, but it'll be a nice walk seeing some seasonal trees and flowers. You can get into the castle,of course.
　　（えぇ、JR大阪環状線か地下鉄で行けるわよ。大阪城公園を通って少し歩くけど、四季の花木が見れて、とって
　　　も良いわよ。もちろん、お城の中も見学できるわ。）
　M: Sounds great! I have never seen the castle. Do you know when the castle was built, by the way? Is it very old?
　　（いいわね！お城なんて見たことないわ。ちなみに大阪城っていつ建てられたの？すごく古いの？）
　E: I think it was first built more than 400 years ago, but the current castle is a reconstruction done in more recent. The
　　 exterior architectural design is the same from ancient times, but its interior is actually quite modern.
　　（確か、最初に建てられたのは400年以上前だったと思うけど、今のお城は最近になって復元されたものよ。外
　　　観は当時のデザインと同じだけれど、内観は割と現代的なのよ。）
　M: Really? That's interesting. I will try to get there then. Thanks!
　　（そうなの？面白そうね。じゃ、ちょっと行ってみるわ。ありがとう！）

－大阪駅周辺と空中庭園－
　M: Elly, where else should I visit? Any other places you'd recommend?
　　（他にどこに行くと良いかしら？どこかおすすめはある？）
　E: You might want to stop by Umeda Sky Building if you are around Osaka station.
　　（大阪駅あたりに行くなら、梅田のスカイビルに立ち寄ってみるのも良いかもよ？）
　M: What's so special about the building?
　　（そのビル、何か特別なの？）
　E: It became famous among the tourists after the British newspaper The Times introduced it as one of the "top 20
　　 buildings around the world" some years　ago.Honestly, I didn't know about it until my friend from Australia told me.
　　（何年か前にイギリスのタイム誌に、世界のトップ20の建築物として紹介されてから観光客の間で有名になった
　　　のよ。実は、私もオーストラリア人の友達に聞くまで知らなかったんだけど。）
　M: I see. I'm very much interested in the modern architectures! I really want to go see it now. Thanks so much!
　　（そうなんだ。私、モダニズム建築にすごく興味があるのよ。すごく行きたくなった。ありがとう！）
　E: Oh good. I wish I could go with you.
　　（よかったわ。一緒に行ければよかったんだけど、、、、）
　M: Oh, I know. Maybe next time!
　　（そうね。また、次回ね！）
